Teluk Meranti is a small friendly village of about 2500 people and sits along side The Kampar River in Sumatra. In 2010 surfing came to this hard to get to village for the Bono wave that occurs once a month and is known to locals as The Seven Ghosts. Once a year the Bono wave peaks and draws surfers from around the world to ride the wave. A new statue was put up of a surfer in the small village. A new statue in the village to promote surfing which started in 2010.
